Competition is not the enemy. It is the measuring tool.
Selling has never been about persuasion. It has always been about conviction. If you do not believe that what your offer has value, the market will mirror that doubt back to you.
I am Laura from Corporate Axtion, and when it comes to marketing, everything for me starts with internal processes and real business needs. Marketing is not selling. Marketing is service delivery. It is the ability to present a solution to a problem, to create awareness around a need, or to educate an audience until they recognise that they already need you.
Why do you as a business owner not want to buy into the power of online marketing? Because you do not understand marketing, you do not even register when the world is marketing to you. Every time you scroll, read, pause, like, or respond, you are engaging with marketing on a subliminal level. It shapes perception long before it reaches conscious thought. Marketing does not happen when you decide to sell. It happens in the spaces where people go to switch off, to observe, to feel seen and understood. That is where attention lives. That is where relevance is formed. When you recognise this, marketing stops being about proving how great you are and starts becoming about recognising the other person, their business, their problem, and letting them experience that you see them.
The biggest selling problem I see across businesses of all sizes is the same. Whether it is a one-person operation, a blue-chip company, or a political party, they all started for the right reasons. Somewhere along the way, they ended up in boardrooms listening to themselves. Telling each other how great they are. How great their product is. How innovative they believe they are.
The brain is wired for confirmation bias. It searches for information that validates what we already feel strongly about. That is why internal validation is meaningless. If you really want to know what your product is worth, see if people talk about it when you are not in the room. Do they know you exist? Do they know how to find you? Are they searching for you, or are they searching for the solution you claim to offer?
Nothing breaks a business illusion faster than an honest market reflection.
Competition is not the enemy. It is the measuring tool. Only within a crowded market do you truly see how you compare. Without comparison, relevance becomes assumed rather than earned.
Another reason businesses stagnate is rigidity. You started with an idea, a framework, a structure. Ten years later, it is unchanged. The market evolved. Technology evolved. Human behaviour evolved. You did not. Growth requires expansion in thinking, not just execution of the same outdated plan.
If you truly want to know how strong your business is, stop talking, stop selling. Start listening. The market will always tell you the truth if you are willing to listen.
